8 mars : quelle figure féminine méditerranéenne êtes-vous ?

Queens, poetesses, warriors… On March 8, Oria Terranea invites you to discover which Mediterranean female figure resembles you.

Every year, on March 8th, International Women's Day is celebrated worldwide. It is an act of remembrance as much as it is a look at the present. The date dates back to the early 20th century, rooted in workers' and feminist struggles that demanded equal rights, the right to vote, and decent working conditions. In 1977, the United Nations officially recognized it as an international day. Since then, it has become a global event to measure the progress made, as well as the progress yet to come.

What this day reminds us of, ultimately, is that women fought these battles before us.

Women who defied their era, circumvented prohibitions, and stood firm where they were expected to fade away. Some governed empires. Others wrote, thought, fought.

A basin of civilizations, a territory of women who marked history

The Mediterranean has given birth to some of history's most striking female figures. Dido, legendary queen of Carthage, who founded a city by the sheer force of her cunning. Cleopatra VII, the last Ptolemaic ruler of Egypt, who negotiated with Rome on equal terms. Hypatia of Alexandria, a 4th-century philosopher and mathematician, who taught in public at a time when it was considered provocative for a woman.

At Oria Terranea, we celebrate the beauty of this region as much as we celebrate those who left their mark there.

An experience created to honor them

It is with the desire to honor these women that we imagined an interactive experience for this March 8th. A quiz that, through a few questions about your way of being in the world, reveals which Mediterranean female figure resonates with your personality. It's an opportunity to recognize yourself in one of them, and to learn more about those who shaped the history of this sea that we love so much.

Are you more of a silent strategist or one who goes to the front? One who governs through diplomacy or through poetry? One whom history has celebrated or one whom it has tried to forget?

There is no right answer. Only an unexpected mirror, held up by women who lived centuries ago and who, curiously, still resemble us.

Many of you took the quiz last March 8, and if you haven't done so yet, there's still time to find yourself in it.
